Sterling Silver & Amethyst Celtic Pendant - 26mm (SP2125)
Amethyst has been worked into Scottish jewellery and Highland dress accessories for centuries, its violet depth a natural complement to the silver metalwork that defines the tradition. Within Celtic decorative arts, the pairing of knotwork with a central stone reflects a long-established compositional approach; the knotwork providing symbolic structure while the stone anchors the eye and adds colour. The navette, or pointed oval, is itself a form with deep roots in Celtic metalwork, its elongated pointed silhouette appearing in brooch and pendant forms across Scotland's decorative heritage.
This pendant takes the form of a large open navette frame, its pointed upper and lower ends enclosing a generous interior space. The border of the frame is worked in interlaced knotwork throughout. Scrolling, looping forms running continuously along both sides and resolving into Trinity knot formations at the lower corners, the detail fine and consistently rendered. The interior of the frame is open, the knotwork border providing complexity without filling the space. At the lower point, a pear-cut amethyst sits in a claw setting, its deep violet tone providing a rich focal point at the base of the pendant. The silver throughout carries a high mirror polish. A smooth bail connects above.
At 26mm x 14mm and approximately 1.6g, it is elongated and elegant in proportion. 925 sterling silver with pear-cut amethyst in claw setting. Bail fitting.
