Sterling Silver Celtic Navette Drop Earrings - 16mm (SE1714)
The navette form has deep roots in Celtic metalwork, its elongated pointed silhouette appearing in brooch and pendant forms across Scotland's decorative heritage for centuries. As a drop earring format it provides a naturally elegant vertical line, the tapered upper and lower points giving the piece a refined, elongated quality that moves well with wear. The integration of Celtic knotwork within the navette outline, worked in silver without the addition of a stone, allows the quality of the interlace itself to carry the piece, the interplay of raised strands and open negative spaces providing all the visual interest the form requires.
Each earring presents an elongated navette outline enclosing a compact Celtic knotwork composition. The knotwork fills the interior of the navette with a continuous interlaced pattern, its looping forms resolving into a Trinity knot arrangement at the centre, the three characteristic arcs clearly readable within the broader composition. The strands are rounded and well-defined, their surfaces smooth and uninterrupted. The pointed upper and lower ends of the navette frame the knotwork cleanly, the overall silhouette slim and elongated. The silver throughout is finished to a high mirror polish, the raised strands catching light against the recessed spaces between them. Fish hook fitting above.
Approximately 2.8g per pair. 925 sterling silver. Fish hook fitting.
