Sterling Silver Charles Rennie Mackintosh Bar Bracelet - 20cm (RMB7171)
Charles Rennie Mackintosh remains Scotland's most celebrated designer, his work produced in Glasgow at the turn of the twentieth century establishing a visual language that balanced organic form with geometric precision in a way that has never lost its relevance. The rectangular open frame was a compositional device Mackintosh returned to repeatedly across his decorative work, its clean right-angled border providing a formal containing structure within which his characteristic organic and geometric elements could coexist. Translated into a bracelet link format, the repeated rectangular frame creates a unified, architectural band of considerable visual coherence.
This bracelet is constructed from a sequence of open rectangular links, each one enclosing a Mackintosh composition of layered geometric and botanical elements. Within each link, a central oval form sits at the midpoint, enclosing a smaller circle, the two concentric forms creating a focal point around which diagonal lines extend to the corners of the rectangle, dividing the interior into open triangular and curved negative spaces. The overall effect within each link is a composition that is simultaneously geometric and organic, the elements drawing on Mackintosh's established decorative vocabulary with confidence. The links are connected by small round jump rings. The silver throughout carries a high mirror polish. Lobster clasp fastening.
19.7cm length, 6.7mm width. Weight 8.46g. 925 sterling silver. Lobster clasp fastening.
