Sterling Silver & Green Stone Celtic Knotwork Teardrop Pendant - 10mm (SP2214)
The teardrop or pear-shaped outline has deep roots in Celtic metalwork, its tapered pointed base and rounded upper form providing a natural vertical field for knotwork composition. The elongated profile lends itself to pendants of refined, slender proportion, the pointed lower end drawing the eye downward to a stone or terminal detail in a manner that gives the piece a strong, directional quality. The use of a green stone within a Celtic knotwork setting connects the design to the colour associations of the Scottish and Celtic landscape, the saturated green tone echoing the natural world that shaped the symbolic vocabulary of the tradition.
This pendant presents a teardrop-shaped open knotwork frame, its interlaced strands forming a continuous Celtic composition within it’s outline. The knotwork fills the upper and mid sections of the teardrop with looping, crossing forms, the negative spaces between the strands giving the piece an open, well-defined quality. At the lower pointed end, a square green stone oriented as a diamond profile fitting within the tapered base of the teardrop. The stone sits in a clean bezel setting, its vivid green tone providing a focused focal point at the base of the composition. The silver throughout carries a high mirror polish. A smooth bail connects the pendant above.
10.3mm width, 19.2mm height. Weight approximately 1.47g. 925 sterling silver with square green stone in bezel setting, diamond orientation. Bail fitting.
