Sterling Silver Scottish Bagpipes Pendant - 15mm (SC1011)
The bagpipes are among the most enduring symbols of Scottish musical and cultural identity, their sound carrying across centuries of ceremony, military tradition and community life. Played at Highland gatherings, military parades, funerals and weddings, the pipes have been central to Scottish public life since at least the fifteenth century, and their distinctive silhouette is recognised internationally as an emblem of Scotland. The Great Highland Bagpipe in particular, with its characteristic bag, blowpipe, chanter and three drones, has a form of considerable visual complexity that translates well into detailed silverwork, its combination of curved and cylindrical elements offering the craftsman a rich subject.
This pendant presents a set of Highland bagpipes as a compact three-dimensional sculpted form. The bag is rendered with a crosshatched texture across its surface, capturing the covered, tartan-wrapped appearance of a traditional pipe bag. The three drones extend upward from the bag in a grouped arrangement, each one a cylindrical form with jointed sections and small decorative ferrules along their length. The blowpipe curves away from the bag at a natural angle. The overall composition is dense and well-resolved, the multiple elements fitting together into a coherent and immediately recognisable form. The silver carries a high mirror polish throughout. A plain round ring fitting connects the pendant above.
At 15mm x 15mm and approximately 1.75g, it is compact and precisely detailed for its scale. 925 sterling silver. Ring fitting.
