Sterling Silver Scottish Bagpipes Pendant - 25mm (SC1010)
The bagpipes are among the most enduring symbols of Scottish musical and cultural identity, their sound carrying across centuries of ceremony, military tradition and community life. Played at Highland gatherings, military parades, funerals and weddings, the pipes have been central to Scottish public life since at least the fifteenth century, and their distinctive silhouette is recognised internationally as an emblem of Scotland. The Great Highland Bagpipe, with its characteristic bag, blowpipe, chanter and three drones, has a form of considerable visual complexity that rewards translation into detailed silverwork, its combination of curved and cylindrical elements offering the craftsman a rich and demanding subject.
This pendant presents a set of Highland bagpipes in a larger, more vertically elongated format than the compact variant in the range. The bag is rendered with a closely woven crosshatched texture across its surface, capturing the covered appearance of a traditional pipe bag. The three drones extend prominently upward in a fanned arrangement, each one a cylindrical form with jointed sections, decorative ferrules and small tartan-style textured bands at intervals along their length. Fringing detail is visible at the drone tops and at the base of the bag, adding further surface interest. The blowpipe extends at a natural angle from the bag. The silver carries a high mirror polish throughout. A plain round ring fitting connects the pendant above.
At 25mm x 14mm and approximately 1.7g, it is the larger of the two bagpipes pendants in the range, with a more pronounced vertical presence. 925 sterling silver. Ring fitting.
