Sterling Silver Scottish Highland Cow Pendant - 16mm (SC1024)
The Highland cow is one of Scotland's most iconic and enduring images, its distinctive long-horned, shaggy-coated form inseparable from the highland landscape it has inhabited for centuries. Bred to withstand the harsh conditions of Scotland's uplands and western isles, the Highland cow has occupied a central place in Scottish rural life and culture for generations. Its character, a combination of rugged resilience and unhurried calm, has made it one of the most recognisable symbols of Scottish identity beyond the country's borders. As a subject for silverwork it translates naturally into three-dimensional sculptural form, the texture of the coat lending itself well to worked and engraved surface detail.
This pendant presents the Highland cow as a fully three-dimensional sculpted form, rendered in the round with careful attention to the breed's characteristic features. The long, sweeping horns extend outward from either side of the head with good reach and definition. The coat is rendered throughout in engraved, flowing lines that capture the shaggy, layered texture of the animal's distinctive long hair. The face carries fine modelled detail, with the characteristic broad, low-set features of the breed clearly represented. The body is solid and well-proportioned, standing squarely on four defined legs. The silver throughout carries a high mirror polish on the smoother surfaces, with the textured coat providing contrast. A plain round ring fitting connects the pendant above.
At 16mm x 10mm and approximately 3g, it is compact but with good sculptural presence. 925 sterling silver. Ring fitting.
