Sterling Silver Trinity Knot Celtic Pendant - 20mm (SP2113)
The Trinity knot, or triquetra, is among the most recognisable symbols to emerge from Scotland's Celtic heritage. Its three interlocking arcs form a continuous, unbroken line with no discernible start or end point, a quality that gave it associations of eternity and the indivisibility of threefold existence across Celtic cultures. The form appears carved into Pictish standing stones, worked into the metalwork of early Scottish craftsmen, and rendered with extraordinary refinement in the illuminated manuscripts produced in Scottish and Irish scriptoria. As a standalone pendant form it has a natural completeness, the three lobes and enclosing ring creating a self-contained composition of quiet geometric authority.
This pendant presents the Trinity knot in an open, lightly structured interpretation. Three gently pointed lobes extend outward from a central interlacing, their curves more relaxed and elongated than in heavier versions of the form. A continuous enclosing arc passes behind the three lobes, binding the composition together. The strands are smooth and rounded in section, their lines clean and uncluttered. The open negative spaces within and between the lobes give the piece a light, airy quality. The silver throughout is finished to a high mirror polish. A plain round ring fitting connects the pendant above in place of a traditional bail, giving the piece a slightly more informal, contemporary hang.
At 22mm x 20mm, it sits neatly and wears lightly. 925 sterling silver. Ring fitting.
